Top Colleges for Programmers

As more businesses and organizations are realizing the beauty and convenience of their own websites, many companies and individuals are seeking the help of web developers and web development services that they offer. But a backend web developer course is truly not easy. For starters to take the course, it requires in-depth knowledge of their profession, it requires skills and experience. One cannot just learn it without studying or reading about it.

Since the need for web developers or backend programmers continues to grow, the backend programs and backend programming languages develop through time as well. Here are some of the five most popular backend programming languages that every web developer must know and keep in mind.

Table of Content

Java

With more than a billion devices and software running Java, knowing and reading about Java should be a must in any web developer’s handbook. Java is used by numerous popular websites such as the business-friendly LinkedIn and the photo-rich Pinterest. As a legend when it comes to backend programming, one simply cannot go wrong with Java.

Java is a development platform and a programming language that aims to reduce a client’s cost, shorten a development timeframe, improve application services, and even drive innovation. As a known programming language worldwide, Java remains to be one of the top choices out there for web developers and enterprises.

Python

Easily becoming one of the most popular programming languages is Python, and for good reason! Python is a programming language that allows web developers to build efficient systems faster and make the whole workload as quick and easy to complete as possible. Python has the easiest programming language to get started with. It also allows its users to experience and learn Data Science and even AI.

As a high-level, interpreted, and general-purpose programming language, Python’s designs focus on code readability using significant whitespace. Python’s object-oriented approach and language construct aim to help web developers or programmers to write clear codes and logical codes for small, medium, and even large-scale projects.

PHP

Specially made for web development, PHP is a general-purpose scripting language that was created in1994 by a Danish-Canadian programmer named Rasmus Lerdorf. Originally an acronym for Personal Home Page, PHP now stands for recursive initialism or PHP: Hypertext Processor.

Usually processed on a web server by a PHP interpreter, PHP code is most of the time implemented as a daemon, a module, or as a Common Gateway Interface (CGI) executable.

Aside from web content management systems, web template systems, and web frameworks, PHP can also be used for many programming-related tasks outside the web context like robotic drone control and standalone graphical applications.

Go

As one of the most popular programming languages, Go is designed at Google by Rob Pike, Robert Griesemer, and Ken Thompson. Go is a statically typed programming language that is also syntactically familiar to C, but this time with garbage collection, memory safety, CSP-style concurrency, and structural typing.

Commonly known as Golang (because of its domain name), the proper name of this programming language is Go. It was designed in 2007 with an aim to improve programming productivity when it comes to networked machines, multicore, and large codebases. Go promotes run-time efficiency and static typing, and is also very usable and readable. Go also has a high-performance rate when it comes to multiprocessing and networking.

Ruby

Designed and developed by Japanese Yukihiro “Matz” Matsumoto during the mid-1990s, Ruby was then a go-to software due to its interpreted, general-purpose, and high-level programming language. Ruby is an open-source and dynamic programming language that focuses on productivity and simplicity. Its syntax is very elegant. It is easy to write and very natural to read.

Aside from being dynamically typed, Ruby also uses garbage collection and supports multiple programming paradigms such as object-oriented, functional programming, and procedural.

A truly proven and tested programming language, Ruby has been making waves and continuously showing its worth to web developers and programmers for over 26 years.

Final Decision

Given the top five most popular programming languages, the decision on which to choose will still be based on what can bring more benefit to the web developer or the programmer. Though the list above shows strong, dynamic, proven, and tested programming languages, there are many more to discover and explore.
