Broome County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) is circulating warning messages to alert the Broome County residents about a scam call series. In the county, residents are receiving scam calls where the callers represent themselves as law enforcement officials.
The purpose of the scam callers is to extract financial information from the residents in an effort to steal money by asking for their personal information.
In the warning from BCSO, the office is asking the residents to not share their credit card information, personal details, or any other information that may lead to financial loss.
As this is a call-based scam, the authorities are discouraging people from sharing their personal information over the phone to anyone representing themselves to be from the law enforcement authority.
“Don’t be fooled, the BCSO office never asks for card or any other personal information on the phone,” said Sheriff Fred Akshar from BCSO.
